Internship Experience|Hana Toyosaki

We held an interview with Hana Toyosaki, who will be doing an internship in Colombia from August 16 to September 30!

I will be doing an internship in Bogota and Medellín, Colombia from mid-August for about a month. My main activities will be assisting Japanese language classes and organizing events to promote Japanese culture at the University of Los Andes in Bogota and at an organization called “Haru no Hinata” in Medellín. I will also participate in a research group on Asia at EAFIT University in Medellín.

I already have friends in Colombia through the study tour project of GOROM, and I am looking forward to seeing them again. I have also had the opportunity to interact with the staff and students at my internship site online beforehand, so I personally feel that I will be able to go to Colombia with relatively little anxiety in terms of living and working there.

What I am most looking forward to while there is learning about Japanese culture, industry, and conditions as seen from a foreign perspective. We will have many opportunities during this internship to give presentations and run activities to local students about Japanese culture, our hometown Hiroshima, peace, and the part-time job situation in Japan. We would like to know how these things are perceived by the people of Colombia and how they affect them. I am also very much looking forward to getting to experience the food, dance, and other culture.

I have little experience going abroad, and I am sure I will encounter many new things in Colombia, but I want to challenge myself without being afraid to try various things.
