It is an indispensable part of Colombian home cooking, and can be fried, baked, stewed, or otherwise cooked and eaten as if it were a vegetable.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Arepa<\/strong>, on the right, is a standard Colombian breakfast, a round bread-like food made from corn flour. There are various types depending on the region, but in Medell\u00edn, a simple arepa with little saltiness, topped with butter and cheese, seems to be the standard breakfast food \ud83d\ude0c.<\/p>\n\n<p>I love it with &#8221; <strong>Quesito<\/strong> &#8220;, the white fresh cheese on the left side: \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>After that, we went to the <strong>host family&#8217;s<\/strong> house.<\/p>\n\n<p>The host families were very kind and drove us to the Japanese Cultural Center &#8220;Haru no Hinata&#8221; where we were doing our internship, and then took us to a shopping center!<\/p>\n\n<p>There I ate <strong>Bu\u00f1uelos (bu\u00f1uelos)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/gorom.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-5-1024x758.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17996\" style=\"width:435px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gorom.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-5-1024x758.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gorom.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-5-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gorom.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-5-768x568.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gorom.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-5.jpg 1042w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"height:34px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a classic Colombian snack, like a fried doughnut with cheese kneaded into it, but it&#8217;s indescribably exquisite and I was instantly hooked\ud83d\ude0d.<\/p>\n\n<p>The internship will finally begin tomorrow!<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Spring Hinata (Japan Cultural Center)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>There is one bus ride from the house to Spring Hinata.<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s not that difficult once you get used to it, but this was my first time on a bus alone in a foreign country. I assisted with Japanese classes (reading, circling, supporting students&#8217; learning, etc.) and workshops to introduce Japanese culture.<\/p>\n\n<p>Schedule<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8211; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: Day class, Evening class<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8211; Thu: off<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8211; Fri: Japanese class in Ajizal (displaced persons&#8217; autonomous community)<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8211; Sat: Morning class, afternoon cultural workshop<\/p>\n\n<p>Ajizal&#8221; in the Friday column is a district where internally displaced persons live, and I was given the opportunity to teach Japanese to the children!<\/p>\n\n<p>Classes included Japanese language lessons with textbook content projected on a screen, and presentation-style lessons introducing Japanese culture.
